The Wellington Declaration

I am not sure if it is just me but I don’t like Hillary Clinton. I can forgive her the Sir Ed naming gaff, in all probability she probably did ask her parents as young kid why she was named Hillary and they probably said it was after Sir Ed. Hell some of my explanations to my nephews and nieces wouldn’t stand up to scruitiny but they had the desired effect and closed the discussion. The problem is of course that some time in the future they will repeat my explanation and discover I was making it up.

Well Hillary arrived today in Middle Earth New Zealand and was met at Wellington airport by a host of important people, that threw me a bit I was aware the President gets Airforce One and the VP gets a plane as well but I had no idea that there was an Airforce 3.7 for the Secretary of State.

The most amusing and ” only in New Zealand ” moment was that the new Mayor of Wellington, Celia Wade-Brown arrived at the airport to greet Clinton on a bicycle. Celia is a Green and I sort of admire her for this maybe the irony struck Clinton who exited with a 14 car ( all BMW’s I am told ) cavalcade, decided on a unshedualed walk around the Wellington waterfront. Bet the SS and New Zealand security agencies loved that.

Anyway back to subject what does it mean ? The Wellington Declaration

A new partnership unveiled today signals a new era in New Zealand-US relations. …

It represents a new era of partnership in a relationship that has underperformed since the fallout over New Zealand’s anti-nuclear legislation 25 years ago.

//

The strategic partnership commits New Zealand and the US to working more closely together on practical projects in the Pacific, with a focus on challenges such as renewable energy, and natural disaster readiness and response.

It also focuses on regular meetings between the countries for high-level political dialogue. Ministerial level meetings will be held regularly, and political military talks will take place between officials from both countries every year.

“We’ll also make sure that our subject experts meet regularly – there’s no point in working in isolation on issues like climate change, or non-proliferation and disarmament,” Mr McCully said.

He said the new partnership was “highly symbolic”.

“It turns a new page in the relationship and establishes a framework for close cooperation across a whole range of fields of shared interest.”

The partnership confirms that the thaw in US-New Zealand relations is complete, and has been for several

What a load of shit. There is no change in economic relations we are still going to be discriminated against with regard to exports to the States so trade and we are a trading nation is not effected. America just did a spot of quantum easing hey thanks America you just made this trading nation’s ability to pay its way far more difficult.

We are going to co-operate on global warming, bet the Mayor of Wellington sucked that up along with the exhaust smoke of 14 BMW’s.
